Overview
MapInfo Professional version 9.5 is the latest release of the powerful yet easy-to-use desktop location intelligence solution available. MapInfo Professional v9.5 provides new data creation and editing tools, enhanced access to the latest databases and industry standards and expanded programmability supporting Microsoft .NET.

Powerful Data Editing and Creation
Use new CAD tools which add functionality to create the right location-data for any analysis needed. CAD tools expand the scope of asset data creation and management capabilities by the ability to create more precise location data. These tools also improve productivity by providing the right tool for the task.

  • Create, edit and update individual property (parcel) boundaries.
  • Draw buildings of fixed size.
  • Change the angle of the building to match roads and parcels.
  • Move or position buildings, cable, wire, and other assets at specific distances from other buildings, roads or other objects.
  • Easily create aligned, paired, matching or “mirrored” buildings by copying, aligning, flipping and rotating objects.
  • Create parcels according to descriptive definitions (”metes and bounds”) - and/or with boundaries relative to other objects and at specific angles.

Support of industry standard data access
Data access is essential to any analysis. By providing support for the latest industry standards and databases, you can apply the power of location to countless data types. MapInfo Professional can directly access the data in its original format. New databases supported include:

Oracle’s new 11G database version - Access the latest Oracle database version including support for Oracle Annotation Text!

Microsoft’s SQL 2008 - Store location as well as business data in a secured and reliable place. Access the data directly and perform location analysis on the most recent data available.

OGC’s WFS-T - Ability to access any OGC standard WFS-T service - access data, make edits and save it back to the server. By supporting industry standards for data access and editing, MapInfo Professional helps combine business and location data in a single environment for more effective data analysis and decision making.

Programming and customization
Pitney Bowes MapInfo now supports the Visual Basic .NET programming language for customizing MapInfo Professional. You have the freedom to use Visual Studio .NET to customize and automate MapInfo Professional. This allows you to add a customized, rich, graphical user interface that meets your needs.

Better Looking Maps
Enhanced automatic curved labeling results in proper placement of labels helping in the creation of easy to read and aesthetically pleasing maps. Version 9.5 improves on this capability by offering more control to choose conditions for the appearance of curved labels.

Automatic labeling around points and centroids
MapInfo Professional 9.5 provides the option to have labels automatically placed in nine different positions around a map object and/or object centroid. This capability places more labels on the map and significantly reduces the time spent on adjusting labels. More labels significantly

Vector translucency (Coming Fall 2008!)
Vector translucency is an exciting new feature that allows you to create a translucent region object, such as a drive time polygon, and continue to view underlying map points, lines and regions. Translucency is one of the many tools that helps provide deeper insight into your data. Examples of vector translucency are:

  • Overlay thematic maps, for example an index of deprivation or particular demographics on top of a base map which provides the context.
  • Provide reference information in the form of map labels that are set at a high translucency so that they do not obscure the map features.
  • Highlight a particular area on the map to draw attention when presented as part of a formal report.

Increased Productivity
There are many enhancements and additions to help you perform analysis quickly and get results faster including:

  • Right click options allow you to select an object, right click and access commonly used menu commands for the associated layer.
  • The point, font, line style, color and pattern pallets all have a new grid control for easy and repeatable style selections.
  • More intuitive new Map Window Dialog box

Enhanced Connectivity
MapInfo Professional v9.5 continues the connectivity capabilities first introduced in version 8.5. You can access powerful web services and directly connect to enterprise solutions so you can access a wide array of capabilities. Through menu options, you can connect to Envinsa or hosted Envinsa Online Services (EOLS) to perform batch geocoding and address lookup or to create driving regions and MapMarker for geocoding and address lookup. In addition, EOLS offers access to an ever-growing supply of current data (including industry-specific datasets) so you don’t have to buy and maintain it.

In addition to connectivity to Envinsa and MapMarker, there is MapBasic support for HTTP, XML and FTP. This support enables you to connect to services including RSS feeds such as Yahoo traffic and XML interfaces to enterprise applications such as SAP or Business objects. You also can communicate with FTP services to dynamically download data.
